As part of our comprehensive transportation services, Dewberry has been providing bridge engineering services for 50 years. These services range from bridge inspections through bridge design and rehabilitation, and construction services for municipal, state and railroad clients. From simple culverts to complex interchanges and long span bridges, Dewberry’s innovative designs utilize the full spectrum of modern construction techniques and materials. This has resulted in the construction of structures with steel trusses, curved beams, box beams, precast/prestressed concrete, timber, and fiber-reinforced polymer spans, with unique architectural treatments and other features. |

| | Cross Bay Bridge Rehabilitation
Jamaica Bay, New York
Dewberry was tasked with this $58-million deck and drainage rehabilitation project which included the six-lane, plus sidewalk, main bridge, with 17 spans. The south end of the bridge splits into five ramps with a total of 43 spans, most of which are over water. The project included the superstructure, consisting of precast "T" girders with post-tensioned tendons. Dewberry's engineer's estimate was within three percent of the low bid. |

| | Rehabilitation of Nurse Helen Fairchild Memorial Bridge
Northumberland/Union Counties, Pennsylvania
Dewberry's design of this nine-span, open-spandrel reinforced concrete arch bridge carrying State Route 1014, Section 004 over the West Branch of the Susquehanna River included reconstruction spandrel columns, deck, and barries with architectural details to retain the aesthetic appearance of the historic landmark structure. Vacuum epoxy injection, an innovative repair method, was incorporated to ensure that the arch barrels could be effectively repaired once the deck was removed and the full extent of the deterioration was exposed. This project received a 2006 Pennsylvania Historic Preservation Award from Preservation Pennsylvania, Inc., in partnership with the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission. |

| | Chaplain Washington Memorial Passaic River Bridge
Kearny/Newark, New Jersey
Dewberry's $98-million deck reconstruction and seismic retrofit provided structural, drainage, lighting, and roadway improvements to the 1.3-mile-long easterly bridge on the New Jersey Turnpike. The incremental lowering of the superstructure, under traffic and over 12 spans, gained four feet of additional vertical clearance under the Pulaski Skyway allowing for wider shoulders. This saved $10-million off the subsequent redecking project by reducing the number of traffic stages and shaving nine months from the schedule. |
